Photojournalism

Application: Photojournalism is the use of photos to tell a news story. Newspapers started printing photos with stories regularly in the 1880s. Henri Cartier-Bresson is classed as the real founded behind photojournalism in the 1930s. Robert Capa and Tony Vaccaro, tony is one of the bigest photographers of the World War II era.
Context: Above is a picture taken by Robert Capa and the other on the right, higher up is by Tony Vaccaro both had unique styles, Robert captioned action shots during the war, his work spanned from the Spanish Civil War- to the second sino Japanese war, World War II, 1948 Arab Israeli War and the first Indochia war. Whereas Tony Vaccaro was a soilder fighting in the Second World War who also took photos when he wasnt fighting.

Techniques: Robert Capas work tried to capture movement and people in action, really creating tension and using the photo to really give us an idea of what these wars were like, Tony Vecarros work was more still, the photos captured war time subjects like Roberts work but expressed it in a different way, more shocking, dramatic and big landscape shots with more people. But both photographers created interesting, unique work and reminds us of the horrible conditions people went through.
