Fashion Photography

Photography started in 1830s, fashion photography first made its appearance in the early 1900s. Edward Steichen was one of the first to try and premote fashion by photography. Baron Adolf de Meyer was another big photographer in the is time period who began shooting models in a natural environment. Harpers Bizarre was also leading Fashion Photographer, these two rivaled through the 1920-30s. Another few names worth mentioning who really help develop fashion photography are George Hoyningen-Heune, Horst P Horst and Cecil Beaton.

Application : Photography is the displaying of items and clothing in the fashion range, a feminine dominated genre,  fashion photography is usually used in fashion magazines like Vogue and Allure and a huge market for advertisement.

Context: Fashion photography is compared important because its an deep expression in art and shows the lastest fashion crazes and style to the public, the main form of fashion photography is by magazines, but TV adverts and buildboards for make up and other items use the style of photography and images.
 Techniques: There are always many techniques for Photography, a heavy amount of modern day photography is done in a studio with powerful lighting and make-up improving the complexion of the skin, then second stage is often Adobe Photoshop where the photo can be completely altered and manipulated, making the models look like angels. Whereas old traditional photography captures a more authentic, cinematic view of the models and possesses much more emotion and feeling.
